Nynehead Web Master

NEW WEBMASTER. It's time for a change! An injection of new blood and new ideas are needed. Within the foreseeable future I will be moving house so now would be as good a time as any to hand over. You could either start from scratch, retain certain parts only of the website, or maintain it more or less as is while making additions of your own. There are no strings attached as far as I am concerned; whatever content is there now [22 Nov 2007] will remain there on handover and whatever intellectual property rights I may have in the content I will renounce. I imagine the new webmaster would need to pass muster with the Parish Council who meet all running costs such as they are, now mainly the annual hosting fee and the bi-annual renewal of the domain name. I volunteered my services and that is the way things have remained. Should you wish to be remunerated you would have to negotiate that yourself.

The task is neither onerous nor technically demanding. If you can email and knock out the odd formatted document you are almost over-qualified! While still in the neighbourhood I could give technical advice should any be needed. The man who runs the business that hosts the website is also very helpful, and punctilious about returning phone calls and emails. Time commitment is harder to assess. Just keeping things ticking over and adding the odd update and so on would probably take on average about 1 hour a week. [Many weeks pass in complete inactivity!] If you were more proactive than I have been then obviously you would spend more time on it. The task could easily be divided among a number of individuals each of whom had responsibility for certain pages. There is software that avoids one person unwittingly interfering with another's work. The webmaster would have overall control as peace-keeper!

Please report any errors or problems to me.

If you want anything included on the website please email it to me preferably in PLAIN TEXT. Ensure 'Nynehead' is in the 'SUBJECT' to get through my spam trap. If you don't know how, see HOW TO ....

If you are FTP enabled, (for more on FTP see the “How To...“ page) please take care not to upset the nynehead.css or the index.html files. If, inadvertently, you do, please let me know a.s.a.p. and I will re-upload them. Without them intact the website will not display properly, if at all.

IMAGES when uploaded should not exceed about 600 px in width. Their height is less critical. Image file sizes should be under about 40 kb. Please put all images in the jpgs folder on the website; it makes the cleaner's task easier! The html to place an image on a page from the jpgs folder would be something like this;

<img src="jpgs/image_name.jpg" width="250" height="192" alt="Brief text">

Enter the width and height of the image in pixels. Whatever you enter in place of "Brief text" appears when the mouse is hovered over the image and is read out by browser readers to the visually impaired. Please do not leave redundant images on the website; they waste space.
