Nynehead & District Local History Society

The Nynehead and District Local History Society was formed in 1971 following the World Ploughing Championship which was held at Heywood Farm. Because the village has such a fascinating history, a small group of residents decided that they would mount an exhibition about the history of the village. The aim of the Society was to promote research about the village. Over the years, many members have carried out research and have produced publications such as the history of Nynehead Court, Hornsay Farm, the Church, Lord Methuen in South Africa and probably the most ambitious project to date, the publication of The Book of Nynehead in 2003.

The Society meets on the second Friday of the month between October and May at 7-45pm in the village hall. At each monthly meeting there is a varied programme of speakers. During the summer months there are various visits organised to places of interest in the locality. The annual subscription is £7 (in 2007/08) and visitors are always welcome at £1-25 (07/08).
